Community Missions

As the public affairs and inter-group relations arm of the organized Jewish community, the JCRC advocates on a variety of issues that confront the needs of the Jewish community and the community at-large. This advocacy comes in the form of educational programming, research, and direct lobbying at the Indiana State House. We recognize that the problems and needs of our community are growing increasingly complex. In order for our advocacy to be effective, we must work to understand the issues on all levels.

Therefore, the JCRC Community Missions program seeks to bridge advocacy efforts with the direct services that correspond to the issues for which the JCRC lobbies. By doing so, the JCRC hopes to gain a greater understanding of the issues, the provision of services, and the community in which we live. The new, "first-hand" knowledge that Community Missions participants gain will provide the JCRC – and in effect, the entire Jewish community – with informed and resourceful individuals to both lobby the Indiana General Assembly and educate members of the Jewish community. Furthermore, direct contact with these community programs will encourage Community Missions participants to volunteer their time to programs and/or projects of interest.

Every two years we organize four days of Community Missions that focus on issues pertaining to the following themes: Youth, Health, Welfare/Poverty, and some aspect of Community Development.

If you're interested in participating in our Community Missions, please contact the JCRC's Government Affairs Associate, David Sklar at d_sklar@indyjcrc.org.
